Dragons’ Den star in car accident on way to Aberdeen

A star of the Dragons’ Den television programme has been involved in an accident on his way to Aberdeen.

The mishap which involved a car being driven by a friend reversing into a bollard meant that Shaf Rasul was unable to attend a business event in the city.

Neither was injured in the collision but the resulting delay meant that Mr Rasul was unable to give the talk as scheduled.

The presentation was part of the Opportunity Knocks event taking place at the Robert Gordon University which is aimed at promoting Scotland’s entrepreneurial talent and educating start-ups.

He was due to speak alongside RGU’s professor of entrepreneurship Alistair Anderson and the finance director of BrewDog Neil Simpson.

The other speakers went ahead with the event, which was held yesterday in the university’s Riverside East Atrium, without him.

Neither RGU nor Mr Rasul’s communications team were able to say where the incident took place.

He alerted his communications team about what had happened and said that he and his friend had suffered no injuries.

Edinburgh-based Mr Rasul, most famous for his role on Dragons’ Den, is an entrepreneur who had become a self-made millionaire by 1999. A recent Sunday Times Rich list estimated his wealth at £82 million.

He has won many accolades including Ernst and Young Scottish Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006 and has featured in Asian 100, a list of the 100 most successful members of the British Asian community.
